The Objectives of the SOMEC are to:

1. Promote high-quality Journalism through Professional training

2. Provide consultancy for the Journalists, Media houses, and Journalists organizations and watch dogs.

3. Monitor and reflect, via research, surveys and publications, on the present and future challenges facing the Somali media.

4. Support, the highest standards of reporting, writing, editing, and broadcasting about Democracy, good governors, Environment, health, peace culture in order to promote the social role of Journalists

5. Provide Somali Journalists with network, advocacy, information services and defend freedom of information, media freedom, and independence of Journalism.

6. Partner with other journalism, advocacy or professional development organizations who share similar goals and beliefs.
